Theobald Boehm (1794-1881)
- German inventor and musician
- perfected the modern day concert flute
- shortly after making his own first flute, he became proficient enough to play in orchestras at the aged of 18
- experimented with making flutes out of different metals such as silver, gold, copper, and nickel
- improved fingering system, now known as the 'Boehm System'
- was a Bavarian court musician, a famous flutist, and composer

Friedrich Dulon (1768-1826)
- was the most famous flute-virtuoso from the classical era
- was considered to be 'gifted' on the flute (prodigy)
- at the age of 40, he already acquired over 200 concerts in his repertoire
- even though he went blind at only six weeks old due to an eye infection, he still took music lessons
- toured all over Europe with his father, and sister in the 1780's
- met with Wolfgang Mozart in the 1790's
- he moved to Wurzburg in 1823, where he later on died in 1826
